Angry classmates of Hafiz Hunain Bilal, a Pakistani class X student who was tortured to death by his school teacher, on Saturday set the school on fire, reported local media.

The incident happened in the morning after enraged classmates of Bilal, who was beaten to death for failing to memorise a lesson, entered the school carrying petrol bottles; they managed to set fire to two rooms of the school building.

Several students were arrested by the police after the fire was brought under control.

Meanwhile, the teacher from American Lycetuff School in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Ravi area has been arrested following the incident on Thursday.

As news about the incident spread on the internet after a tweet from the boy’s cousin, many on social media slammed the teacher and stood in solidarity with Bilal’s family.

Bilal’s family members and classmates said the teacher banged his head on the wall, kicked him in the back and stomach, following which the boy lost consciousness. However, he was not taken to the hospital on time. Bilal was declared dead due to his injuries.

The paternal uncle of the 16-year-old boy told GEO TV that the boy was beaten up for just not completing a simple assignment while his classmates were forced to look at the assault.

Bilal’s father has already lodged an FIR and has blamed the school administration and principal for mentally torturing his son for a long time over non-payment of fees.

The family of Bilal has demanded justice for the deceased teenager and maximum punishment for Kamran, the teacher responsible for Bilal’s death.

Punjab Minister for School Education Murad Raas, who visited the bereaved family, has directed the authorities to take strict action against the accused.
