The Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) on Monday called on the Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, to increase investment on human capital development and civic engagement in his second term.
Rev. David Ugolor, Executive Director, ANEEJ, made the call at a three-day workshop for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and media practitioners on human capital development, anti-corruption, budget monitoring and tracking.
He said the workshop was an overview of the Edo State government’s budgets and provisions for human capital development over the past three years and to review the structure of existing human capital development interventions in the state.

According to Ugolor, this workshop was coming a few days to Obaseki’s second term inauguration, especially as he had resolved to dedicate a better part of efforts now to human capital development to build on his first term efforts.
According to him, “Holding the governor accountable to this commitment is the responsibility of civil society and media actors in the state to improve the knowledge of citizens, and policy makers around the issues of good governance and open budgetary processes that support civic engagement.
“The project’s objectives is also to provide civil society organisations the knowledge to advocate for change in current approaches in combating irregular migration and advocacy for human capital development, budget monitoring/public spending, anti-corruption and good governance policies and programmes.”
