The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has prayed to God to protect former Chief of Army Staff, Theophilus Danjuma, for speaking the truth.

Wike spoke in reaction to the call by Danjuma on Saturday that Nigerians should rise up and defend themselves as the Nigerian Army could not more be relied upon to protect them against the spate of killings in the country.

Speaking during the swearing in of judges in Port Harcourt on Monday, Wike said that Nigeria had lost direction.

He added that Danjuma’s declaration was the obvious truth.

Said he: “Nigeria has got to a point that we don’t know where we are heading.

“I don’t fast, but I will fast and pray to God to keep General Danjuma. General Theophilus Danjuma has said the truth. It is happening daily in Rivers State.”

Wike also spoke about the objection to the security measure his government had put in place in the form of neighbourhood safety corps.

According to him, those opposed to it were out to make the state insecure.

“We only replicated what is in existence in Lagos State, but nobody queries that of Lagos State. Only recently, Nasarawa State launched her outfit, without being challenged.

“The recent deliberate crisis and threat of violence by the APC on the setting up of the neighbourhood safety corps underscores the devilish schemes to promote insecurity in Rivers State,” he said.
