The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday, stormed the National Assembly, Abuja, to protest the Wednesday alleged police attack on Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State.
Led by its chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, and some of its bigwigs, the party expressed dismay over the alleged incident which left Fayose fainted and taken to Government House Clinic for treatment.
The PDP chieftains were received by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
Expressing the party’s anger, Secondus described the Wednesday incident as a coup.
“Ekiti Government House was seized, the governor was brutalised, detained and harmed,” he said.
Secondus also warned against rigging during the July 14 Ekiti election.
He threatened that 2019 election would not hold if the Ekiti governorship election was rigged.
His words: “Ekiti has been militarised and policed. Over 30,000 policemen are in Ekiti. The citizens of Ekiti are afraid. They are traumatized; they are harrassed and they are being guided not to come out of their homes.
“We call on international community to see and watch what is happening in Ekiti. If this is the type of democracy and election they tend to conduct that means the 2019 election is under threat. We believe that if they continue in this manner and if they rig the election in Ekiti, there won’t be an election in 2019.

“Your Excellency, we have come so you can intervene. With the oversight function of the National Assembly, you have a right; the mandate is with you by the constitution to query and examine and carry out your oversight function of the executive.”
In his reaction, Ekweremadu said the National Assembly would ensure the neutrality of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security agencies in the electoral exercise.
