Akwa Ibom: Police ban use of motorcycles

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command  has banned the use of motorcycle in Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun local government areas of the state from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

The ban takes effect from Sunday till further notice.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the command, Bala Elkana,  the measure became necessary to tackle the rising tide of violent crimes like murder and kidnapping in the areas with the use of motorcycles.

“The Command wishes to state categorically that violators of this order will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“The task of making Akwa Ibom State safe and secured is a collective responsibility; and together we can win the battle against crime. Continue to support the Police to serve you better,” the statement reads in part.
