Akwa Ibom:  PDP clears all seats in council election

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been declared the winner of the chairmanship and councillorship seats in Akwa Ibom.

The local government election was conducted on Saturday by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, AKISIEC.

Chairman of the commission, Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak, in a statement in Uyo said the elections met the relevant provisions of the state electoral laws.

He said the PDP won in all the 31 seats vied for in the chairmanship position and also cleared the 329 seats meant for councillors.

Mr Ikoiwak revealed that the details of the results as submitted by field officers would be made public by the field operations/logistics department of his commission.

He thanked all relevant stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the elections.

Meanwhile, the state electoral commission has invited all winners in the election to get their certificates of return at the AKISIEC office, along Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo on Monday.

A release by the commissioner in charge of Legal Matters and Public Affairs at the Commission, Dr Faith Umoh, schedules the exercise for noon.

Meanwhile, thousands of Akwa Ibom people have taken to the social media to congratulate the winners of the elections.

Most of them also congratulated AKISIEC for ensuring a credible election.
