The first lady, Aisha Buhari, on Thursday called for adequate implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution on Women Peace and Security to ensure gender mainstreaming for effective service delivery.
Buhari was speaking on Thursday at the 2nd Annual Security Forum focusing on Women, Peace and Security in Nigeria.
The theme of the event is: “Mainstreaming Gender in National Early Warning System and Responses to Security Challenges’’ at the National Defence College in Abuja.
The first lady expressed optimism that the event would ensure greater opportunities in gender mainstreaming within security sector in the country.
“I am delighted to be part of this 2nd Annual Forum which serves as a viable platform to deepen discussion on accelerating gender mainstreaming within our Security Sector.
“I am optimistic that the outcome of this forum will ensure equal opportunities for all officers in the sector with the hope of ensuring sustainable peace and security in our dear country.
“While expressing my optimism that this gathering will provide a road map for expediting action on the implementation of UN Resolution on Women, Peace and Security Agenda within the Security Sector.

“I will like to call on all stakeholders to match the outcome of this meeting with action’’ she said.
Buhari also used the opportunity to declare her commitment and support to sustainable peace and security in Nigeria.
“I therefore declare my commitment to ensuring peace as well as encouraging the effectiveness of all established structures and networks towards adequate implementation of the Peace Resolution,” she said.
The first lady was later decorated as the super champion of the Nigerian Mothers in recognition of her role in championing the course of women and girl-child in Nigeria by the Minister of Women Affairs Pauline Tallen.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was part of 16-days activism on Gender Based Violence Women and Girls.
The UN has set aside Nov. 25 to Dec. 10 to commemorate International day for the elimination of violence against women.
The theme for 2021 day is:“Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now! (NAN).
