The Governor of Awka Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has called on the people of the state to be vigilant in order to prevent vandals from destroying public facilities, especially electrical installations.
He made the call at Uquo, the Esit Eket local government headquarters while worshiping at the Lutheran Church, Nigeria District Headquarters.
He said vandalism was one of the problems affecting some of the development programmes of his administration.
The governor who spoke against the backdrop of the vandalism that led to the problem of power supply in some parts of Esit Eket, promised to help out.
He said his government would swiftly intervene to help solve the power challenges in the area.
Speaking on some interventions he had carried out in the past, he said at Ika, he restored electric poles, cables and transformers.
Governor Emmanuel expressed regret that the people of some communities watched while their facilities provided were being pilfered and carted away, only for them to come to the government and lament.
The governor thanked the people of Esit Eket for their usual support, just as he promised them more good roads.
The move, he said, would promote economic activities in the area.
Describing Esit Eket as one of the catchment areas of the Ibom Deep seaport project, the governor said it was already enjoying some road projects including the 55.1 kilometer super highway, the 13.13km Akpambiet Edo-edina Edo Ebe Ekpe Road, the Ndon Edim-Idung Akpantuen Road with spur, and the 1.7km – Uquo Isi Edoho Edo Road.
The governor said the deep seaport project had reached the RVP stage and that soon, the progress made would become apparent.
He called on the people of the state to show interest in the bid to revamp the Akwa Palms project in the area.
The governor also spoke about the Lutheran Church, saying it had played vital roles in human capital development in the state.

According to him, the church had been very instrumental to developing several people in the state.
He called on it to continue to contribute to the development of the state.
Rev. Daniel Eshiet spoke on the topic: “Jesus the great healer.”
Eshiet who drew his text from Mark 7:31-37 said Jesus healed and caused breakthroughs to happen with his powers.
He commended the governor for the development he had brought to the state.
Described as God-fearing, all the priests at the church prayed for the success of his administration.
At the church service were Senator Bassey Albert; Senator Etang Umoyo; Hon. Owoidighe Ekpoattai; Chief Nduese Essien; Elder Ben Udobia; Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh of Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency; members of the the state Executive Council led by SSG Emmanuel Ekuwem, Chairmen of Eket and Esit Eket, paramount ruler of Esit Eket among others.
