The Police Command in Akwa Ibom state said it has arrested three suspected herdsmen for murder.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal disclosed this in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Odiko MacDon and made available to the Next Edition.

According to the CP, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, on the 30th of November, 2019, at about 11:00a.m, received a report from one Ime Aman Essien, of Afaha Atai Village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, that one Peter Edem Asuquo of same address, while in his farm, was stabbed at about 9:30a.m of same date, by suspected Cattle Rearers at Shelter Afrique Extention, leading to his death.

The statement said CP Edgal ordered the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly crime.

“In a swift response to the directive of the CP, the following suspects were arrested in connection with the said crime; Shehu Ule, Aliyu Umar and Neusa Adamu.”

To further enhance peaceful coexistence and prevent any break down of law and order, the Commissioner of Police, on Monday, 2nd December, 2019, held a peace meeting with the Traditional Leader and Head of Afaha Atai, Ette Idung Etim Edet and the Chairman of the Fulani Community, Mustapha Gurama.

Also in attendance at the meeting were the brother of the deceased, Mr. Eyong Edem, the Village Council Chairman, Mr. Ita Ekpo, members of the Vigilante, the DPO of Shelter Afrique Division and other leaders of thought.

The CP sympathised with the family of the deceased for the avoidable loss and implored all stakeholders present in the meeting to maintain the peace and avoid a breakdown of law and order assuring them that the perpetrators will be charged to court immediately.

He further reiterated his commitment to the protection of lives and property in every part of Akwa Ibom State and warned criminal elements to steer clear of the State forthwith as the Command will leave no stone unturned in clamping down on every form of criminality.
