Revealing that it was not his first time at the Afrika Shrine, Macron said he had fond memories of the place, having been in Nigeria in the past.

He however said he never thought he could return to Nigeria as a president.

Macron who spoke with journalists at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, also spoke about how popular Fela and his children Femi and Seun were in France.

According to him, they were big names in his country.

His words:  “I know the place (Afrika Shrine) and I have some memories…

“First, I think that (Afrika Shrine) is such an iconic place for a lot of African people and African culture.

“I mean, Fela, Femi, Seun Kuti, are obviously very famous in France and Europe; they are big successes but the Shrine is a cultural hub, an iconic hub and it is very important for me first on a personal level, and that is why I want to say with a lot of humility that I recognise the importance of this place, I recognise the place of culture in this current environment.”
