There are two categories of side chics, the ones who know they are the side chics, and accept their fate, and play their role in the relationship as assigned. Then there are side chics who think they are the main girlfriends and try to act same, but that aspiration is a mere dream and they continue to live in their own dreams. These are in the category of ‘accidental side chic.’
You think being heart-broken by your man is bad? Then you haven’t been an accidental side chic where you thought you were his girlfriend but he has another girl or worse still, he has a wife and children – and they are calling the shots!
It’s easy to fall into this category most times because most of these men have perfected the art of deceit. He makes you feel as though you are the only woman in his dumb life, so you go ahead to love him exclusively.
He fills your ears with phoney promises and rehearsed lines, which always work to stimulate your emotions.
So, you go ahead in your little happy little world loving him exclusively and thinking he is feeling you same with same gravitational pull. Chances are you would think you are your boo’s only boo but your boo has another boo!!! Do you get the repetition?
How do you know you are the side chic? It’s always pretty obvious but because you are blindly in love, you don’t see them enough to think with your brains and not your heart. Girl, wake up!

Let’s keep it private: it is okay to keep your relationship private. But if he does not show you off to any friend or family, he doesn’t want to be seen with you in the public, then there is something suspicious about it. Find out why! There is every need to question him if he does not introduce you to part of his world.
Disappearing act: Does he disappear or find excuses so as not to share special moments with you? If he disappears on special days like Christmas, his birthday, Valentine, then he is a suspect. If you are in an exclusive relationship, spending these special days with you shouldn’t be an issue. Gbam!
Creepy phone calls: This is always the first red light in relationships generally. This is some sort of hot potato when it comes to relationships generally. Once you notice he is receiving calls secretly, deleting call history and guarding his phone like his life depends on it? There is a clear chance that you may be the side chic. Don’t you think so?
If he picks your calls only at a particular time: When you aren’t around, he wants to create time for his main chic or wife. At this point, you are very irrelevant to him. Most times, this happens during weekends because he works during the week and already has an excuse for his woman. Check this! Some go as far as not picking your calls when it’s 9 p.m when they get home or feel tense if they manage to pick the call. These ones are probably married with children. Flee!
No surprise visits: Surprises are sweet! But have you ever tried to surprise your man at his house and he gets so mad at you? Now that is a red light! The reason might be because he doesn’t want you to end up surprising yourself when you meet another woman there.
He never introduces you as his girlfriend: “Meet my friend, Freda” that’s how he introduces you to his friends especially his female friends, so you don’t spoil his games. Whatever happens to introducing you as the woman in his life? Check that man! Check him again!
Ladies, these are the are red flags you should look out for when in a relationship. You can’t afford to be with a man who has a family somewhere or preparing to get married to his fiancée in a few weeks and you are still in your little corner of the house, mourning and, perhaps, swooning.
