Lagos State students have emerged winners at the 2019 Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) National Children’s Arts, Science and Technology Expo, clinching the first position and second runner-up in Arts/Crafts and Science and Technology category respectively.
On receiving the news of the Lagos team’s victory, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, the state’s Commissioner for Education, commended the team for making the state proud.
She affirmed that Lagos State students have been consistent in giving the State accolades from various competitions, which gives credence to the state government’s efforts in the quality of teaching and learning in Lagos public schools.
“My joy knows no bounds that you took the challenge seriously and have made the State proud, especially with this sterling performance at the end of the competition and also with the trophy and gifts. I congratulate you and wish all of you the best as a team and as individual students,” she said.
While felicitating with the students, the commissioner said she was not comfortable with the second runner up position for the Best Engineering Innovative Project in the Science and Technology category, and charged the students to double their efforts.

She said: “As a Centre of Excellence, which Lagos State is, we cannot afford to trail behind any other state. I implore you to up your game and overturn this result at the next competition.”
The NTA National Children’s Arts, Science and Technology Expo is an annual event aimed at discovering and developing creativity among young, talented and intelligent students.
The competition involved 28 states of the federation, which keenly contested in Arts/Crafts, Science and Technology categories, which were in two stages comprising of the Preliminary/State Finals and National Finals. The state’s team won a trophy, plaque, cash gifts among other prizes
The event, which had the theme of this year’s competition as “Promoting Unity and Innovations in Youths as Agents of Change through Science and Arts,” was organised by National Television Authority (NTA) Channel 10, in collaboration with all the states’ Ministries of Education for primary and secondary schools students nationwide.
