The Enugu State Police Command on Monday warned the Biafra Zionist Federation, BZF, to steer clear of the state or be ruthlessly dealt with.
The warning by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Suleiman Balarabe, is coming ahead of threat by the leader of the group to declare Biafra State on Wednesday, July 31.
Balarabe said anybody breaching the peace in the state would face the wrath of the police.
Speaking at a meeting with transport associations and stakeholders in the state on the alleged threat by the group, the Police Commissioner stressed that law enforcement agencies, including the police, would not fail to arrest and prosecute any group or individual that caused breach of the peace.
“I know that the people of Enugu State are peace-loving.
“The police and other sister security agencies are assuring residents of the state of adequate security,” he said.
The leader of the BZF, a pro-Biafra group, Mr. Benjamin Onwuka, had pasted posters in public places that he would be declaring himself as the president of Biafra Republic in Enugu on July 30.
He also ordered that residents of the state should stay at home and celebrate the “historic declaration.”
While speaking at the meeting, the State Secretary of National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mr. Collins Nebo, said the union members were not in support of frequent threat to their trades by pro-Biafran groups.
“We are known for peace as a union and we will continue to support the police and other law enforcement agencies to build an enduring peace in the state,’’ he said.
