The Federal Government has said it will commence the verification and payment of ex-workers of the dead Nigeria Airways Limited (NAL) in Diaspora on Monday, June 24, in London, United Kingdom, UK.

The verification exercise, which is scheduled to last for two weeks, will be conducted by an Inter-Ministerial Team at the Nigerian High Commission in London.

Acting Director, Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit, PICA, Mr. John Waitono, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said the team, which will be coordinated by PICA, comprises of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Auditor-General Office, Accountant-General Office and others agencies.

Waitono, representing the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Mohammad Dikwa, will lead the team during the exercise, according to the statement.

The statement further explained that the Federal Government decision to conduct the exercise for those in Diaspora in London was as a result of the role the city played as the European Operational Office of the defunct Airline.

“The essence of the exercise is to alleviate the hardship being experienced for more than a decade while waiting for the benefits.

“It will also save them the stress and financial burden of travelling to the country for the exercise including other logistics involved in coming to Nigeria for their entitlements.”

The statement quoted President Muhammadu Buhari as apologising for the years of neglect suffered by the ex-staff of NAL.
