Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, is scheduled to visit selected constituency offices across the country to get a first hand feel of the people.

Chairman, House ad hoc Committee on Media, Kadijat Abba-Ibrahim (APC-Yobe), who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, said the Speaker wanted to see for him the true situation of things, especially in the places always in the news.

Noting that the House was ready to hit the ground running, she said the traditional victory party which usually held after the election had been cancelled because members needed to settle down.

She said: “Mr Speaker has also emphasised that he is going to visit some constituency offices to have a feel of what is happening in these constituencies especially the most crucial ones that are always in the headlines.

“This is the first in history that a speaker has chosen to go round some states to visit constituency offices to have a feel of what is going on, other than his own constituency.

“We are really happy about that because as you are all aware, we come from the grassroots and the people must know what is happening at the federal level and in Nigeria as a whole.”

Abba-Ibrahim assured that there would be no discrimination against any member irrespective of political party or creed, noting that campaigns were truly over and all members would be carried along.

She also assured that the House would work together with the Executive to enthrone good governance in the country.

Recall that Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila was elected Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives on Tuesday by 281 members of the House.
