Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of River State, has dethroned the traditional ruler of Gbenemene Baabe in Khana Local Government Area of the State, Monday Frank Noryaa.

The Governor on Tuesday, ordered the withdrawal of the Certificate of Recognition given to the monarch with immediate effect.

A statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, noted that the monarch was found guilty of sponsoring cult activities in the state.

“The withdrawal of Government Recognition from HRM Chief Monday Frank Noryaa, followed his alleged indictment on cult-related activities within his kingdom.

“The Traditional Ruler was also indicted for harbouring cultists, leading to insecurity in the area,” the statement said.

Wike, while restating his administration’s commitment to the promotion of peace and security across the state, stressed that any traditional ruler or government functionary indicted for promoting insecurity in the state would not escape the wrath of the law.

Monday Frank Noryaa, Gbenemene Baabe, who was a first class traditional ruler in Khana Ogoniland is the first to be dethroned by Governor Wike after his threat that his administration would take the fight against criminality in the state to the criminals and their sponsors.
