SP Haruna Mohammed, Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Anambra State Command, who issued the statement, noted that the suspect would be handed over to the Ogun State Police Command where the offence was committed for further investigation and prosecution.

The statement reiterated determination of the Police to stem the tide of armed banditry and other heinous crimes in Anambra.

In a related development, the command said that on May 13, 2019, at about 1.30 p.m, following intelligence report, operatives attached to the command’s SARS and Operation Puff Adder tracked down and arrested Ajumobi Chibueze, a.k.a, Ijele male, aged 24 years and Bosa Chidi male aged 28 years.

According to the command, all the robbed items have been recovered from the suspects and case is under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the State Police Command has expressed concern over continued use of unmarked/ covered number plate and branded campaign vehicles in the state, saying that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted.

The command enjoined politicians to re-paint their branded campaign vehicles as hoodlums use them to perpetrate crimes.

“Information at the disposal of the Anambra State Police Command revealed that hoodlums in the state are using branded and or unmarked/tinted vehicles with covered plate numbers to perpetrate crimes in the state in order to avoid being detected by the law enforcement agencies.

“Such acts are not only unlawful but also constitute serious security threats to the public which if left unchecked could worsen the security situation in the state. In view of the foregoing, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Dandaura, has ordered with immediate effect the arrest and prosecution of persons using unmarked/ tinted and masked vehicles without authorization.

“The CP further enjoined politicians in the state to repaint their branded campaign vehicles on or before June1, 2019 or the command will be left with no option than to impound such vehicles since electioneering campaigns are over.

“ Consequently, the CP also warned that any Security personnel found escorting their principal with an unmarked vehicle or those with covered vehicle number plates will be arrested and dealt with accordingly,” the command said in a statement.
