About 50 trucks of food items donated by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA have been distributed to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in Benue State.
Flagging off the distribution, the Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Emmanuel Shior said the food items comprised of Maize, Millet and Garri.
Mr. Shior stated that the food items were to be distributed equally to the remaining six official and 22 unofficial IDPs camps in Guma, Logo and Makurdi Local Government Areas of the State.
“We have six official camps and about 22 unofficial Camps. The unofficial camps comprise of IDPs within our host communities.
“The food items comprise over 50 trucks of Maize, Millet and Garri that NEMA supplied to Benue SEMA since first week of December, 2018”.
Mr. Shior explained that SEMA took the steps to distribute the items after several attempts to draw the attention of NEMA headquarters and its Zonal office in Jos failed.

The Executive Secretary said “given the major challenge the IDPs are facing, the State Governor, Samuel Ortom has directed the commencement of distribution of the items to the IDPs”.
He added that it also became necessary for government to distribute the item to save the food items from rodents and damage due to bad weather.
The distribution was witnessed by the officials of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, NEPAD as well as Civil Society Organizations, CSOs and the media.
