World Leprosy Day: EKERE Promises Succour For PLWD

The All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Nsima Ekere, has assured people living with disabilities, PLWDs, that if elected, his government would provide opportunities for them to be productive.

Speaking on Sunday, at the Qua Iboe Church Leprosy Hospital, Ekpene Obom in Etinan LGA, Ekere, who was represented by the deputy governorship candidate, Dr. Amadu Attai, noted that the greatest challenge facing people living with leprosy was idleness.

He said that if people living with leprosy are engaged in productive activities they would be united with members of their families thereby eliminating discrimination, stigmatization and prejudice.

Dr. Attai, therefore assured the people that if Ekere becomes the governor of the state, “he will not only give them fish, but will as well teach them how to fish.”

He was at the Qua Iboe Church Leprosy Hospital to celebrate the “World Leprosy Day.”

The event themed, “Ending Discrimination, Stigma and Prejudice” attracted a good number of persons living with Leprosy form across the state.

Dr. Attai thanked the organisers of the event and the church management for finding time to show love to people living with Leprosy.

Responding, the Chairman, Hospital Management Committee, Dr Okon J. Emah appreciated Ekere for honouring the invitation and for his immense contributing to the success of the project.

He pleaded with the candidates to show kindness and love to people living with leprosy across the state if they assume office in the Hilltop mansion.
