Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has decried the violence, confusion and hostility which attended the gubernatorial primaries of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State.

The Gov. who stated this, shortly after being declared winner in Sunday’s governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held at the Uyo Township Stadium, thanked the delegates for their peaceable conduct throughout the exercise.

A release signed by Ndifreke P. Akpan disclosed that Governor Emmanuel polled 3817 votes to emerge winner after 10 votes were voided.

Making reference to the violent conduct of the APC primaries which allegedly led to loss of lives, the victorious Gov. said, “Well, stories are everywhere that by their fruits, you shall know them. The violent ones you shall know them, the confused ones you shall know them, the troublesome ones, you shall know them.”

He maintained that the development, peace and unity of Akwa Ibom are cardinal objectives of the Peoples Democratic Party’s sacred pact with the people of the State.

According to Udom, the position of PDP as a party that provides opportunities, empowerment schemes for women and youths and other dividends of democracy makes it the only vehicle that is capable of meeting the yearnings of his people.

“With PDP, Akwa Ibom shall grow from strength to strength, with PDP, Akwa Ibom shall enjoy more peace and progress, because God is resident in this party.

“Let me thank all of you for this show of confidence, trust and let me reassure you, a job well done means more job to be done. We will do a lot more in Akwa Ibom State,” he said.

He noted that in the history of Akwa Ibom State, the PDP or any other living party in state, “this would be the first time for the entire state to rise up and say, Go unopposed.”

The Gov. said the victory march shall lead them to victory at the general elections in 2019, adding that there will be disappointment for those who wish to steal the destiny and progress of the state.

Earlier the Ekiti State Governor and chairman of the Akwa Ibom state governorship primary electoral committee, Mr Ayo Fayose had declared Governor Udom Emmanuel nominated during today’s governorship primaries in Akwa Ibom State.

The PDP primary had commenced with the orientation on delegates at the PDP state secretariat by the electoral returning officer, before the accreditation of delegates at Ibom Hall ground for onward movement to the stadium.
