The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, disclosed that the planned exit of Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal and his Kwara State counterpart, Abdulfatah Ahmed, was not a secret.
Okorocha made this known on Wednesday after a meeting of the governors and some top APC chieftains with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting was to strategise following the gale of defection that swept through the party.
Recall that Tambuwal announced his defection from APC on Wednesday, a day after the defection of Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State.
According to the governor who spoke with State House correspondents shortly after the meeting, APC was aware of the plans long before they were executed.
He however said that the remaining governors would remain with the party.
His words: “Two of our colleagues left our party. This is politics, it is unfortunate that they have to go.
“We have 22 states, 53 senators now. Nobody is leaving the party anymore. Those who have left, we are aware that they will leave long ago.”
The governors present at the meeting were: Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa; Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos; Yahaya Bello of Kogi; Jubril Bindow of Adamawa; Kashim Shettima of Borno; Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi and Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo.
Ibikunle Amosun; Simon Lalong of Plateau; Rochas Okorocha of Imo; Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano and Sani Bello of Niger were present.

At the meeting too were Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna; Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa; Godwin Obaseki of Edo and Grace Laoye-Tomori, deputy governor of Osun State.
Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara; Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi and Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe did not attend the meeting.
