Melaye: Police commence investigation into kidnap

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced investigation into the kidnap of Senator Dino Melaye.

Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, made this known Thursday night in a statement.

He said apart from the reports in the media, nobody had reported the case to the police.

He therefore called on anyone who had useful information about the case to assist the police with it at the nearest station.

His words:  The Force has commenced investigation into the purported kidnap of Senator Dino Melaye, and wishes to implore any of his family members, relatives or friends who witnessed the kidnap or have information about the purported kidnap of the Senator to report the incident at the nearest police station to assist the police in the investigation.”

Suspected armed men, Thursday, blocked Senator Dino Melaye along Gwagwalada –Abuja highways and whisked him off to an unknown destination.

According to his aides, Mr. Melaye was on his way to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital to appear before a Magistrate Court to answer charges of gunrunning.

The attackers were said to have come in a Toyota Hilux and a Sienna bus.

Musa Shuaibu, one of the associates of the lawmaker who witnessed the incident, confirmed spoke with reporters.

“As we speak, his (Melaye’s) whereabouts is unknown. Nigerians must come to his rescue,” Shuaibu said.

Neither calls nor text messages to Melaye’s lines were answered.
