In view of the incessant killings by suspected herdsmen, the movement of herdsmen will no longer be allowed.
However, ranches will be created across the country for them.
These are some of the decisions reached by the National Economic Council, NEC, looking into the problem between herdsmen and farmers in the country.
Chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, NEC membership is made up of state governors, some ministries and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Speaking with State House correspondents shortly after its meeting at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, said the restriction of the herdsmen would first be carried out in Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna and Plateau states.
According to him, the states would also be required to make land available for the creation of ranches.
He said with the ranching, the herdsmen and their families would have access to a better life.
The cattle, he added, would also be well taken care of.
According to him, the federal and state governments would agree on the different roles they would play in ensuring the success of the system.
Herdsmen from neighbouring countries would be expected to show some travel documents, notwithstanding the free movement allowed within West African countries.
The essence, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, who spoke too, was to stop the spate of killings.
