He said 28 of the missing students returned Tuesday night while 20 more others returned Wednesday morning.

“This has brought down the 94 missing students realised at yesterday headcount to 48 this morning.

“We are still hopeful that more are returning soon,” he said.

The students were said to have been rescued by villagers in the bush around Dapchi.

Some of the students fled when the insurgents struck on Monday.

A head count was said to have been conducted leading to the realisation that some of the girls were missing.

Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Abdumaliki Sunmonu, however could not confirm a case of abduction.
