The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has filed a suit alleging fraud against the Chief Excecutive Officer of Innoson Nigeria Limited, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, popularly known as Innoson.

Also said to be involved in the fraud are his company, Innoson Nigeria Limited and his brother,  Charles Chukwuma.

The charge was dated 30 November, 2017 and filed at a Lagos High Court.

In the suit, Chukwuma was said to have obtained containers of motorcycles spare parts by false pretences with the intention of committing fraud.

The alleged offence was said to have been committed between 2009 and July 2011 in Lagos.

The goods said to belong to Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, were allegedly obtained from Mitsui O.S.K Lines Limited in Apapa.

EFCC said Innocent Chukwuma and Charles Chukwuma, “with intent to defraud induced the staff of Mitsui O.S.K and Maersk Line Limited to deliver”, to them through their clearing agents, the motorcycle spare parts, moulds of spare parts and steel structures and raw materials called polyvinlchlorid, imported from China.

The EFCC said Innoson wrongly created the impression that it got the authority of GTB to clear the goods and take delivery.

It would be recalled that EFCC arrested Chukwuma last Tuesday for allegedly jumping an administrative bail.

According to the spokesperson of the anti-graft agency, Wilson Uwujaren, his arrest followed his refusal to honour its invitation.

Said Uwujaren:  “His arrest followed his refusal to honour invitation by the Commission having earlier jumped an administrative bail granted him in a case being investigated by the Capital Market and Insurance Fraud Unit of the Commission’s Lagos office.”

Uwujaren explained that Chukwuma was picked up at about 11am at his Savage Crescent, GRA Enugu residence.

He said it took reinforcement from the Enugu office of the EFCC to effect the arrest of the industrialist.

Innoson was  later released on bail.
