His victory was announced by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam.

He secured 2000 votes to beat former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran, and Raymond Dokpesi, owner of Raypower and Africa Independent Television, AIT, to the second and third positions respectively.

While Adeniran came a distant second with 230 votes, Dokpesi got 66 votes.

Describing the electoral exercise as a fraud, Adeniran stormed out of the venue.

There were indications earlier in the day that Secondus would gain the upper hand in the contest as he become the favourite as at the time the election was starting.

That was because of the permutations ahead of the 2019 general elections in the party.

The party had zoned the Presidency to the North and vice presidential candidate most likely zoned to the South West.

By the calculation, electing anyone from the South West as chairman might spell doom for the party.

The governor, as a result, backed Secondus.

Professor Adeniran who appeared to be Secondus’ closest rival was not backed by most of the aspirants from the South West that withdrew from the race.

Rather, some of them, it was gathered, threw their weight behind Secondus.

Said to have worked for Secondus was his experience as acting chairman of the PDP National Working Committee.

His relationship with politicians in general was also said to be fantastic, and that also worked in his favour.
