The directive follows consultations with security agencies and is aimed at disrupting supplies to Boko Haram militants operating in the region.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Malam Dauda Iliya, conveyed the announcement in a statement released on Saturday in Maiduguri.

“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect,” Governor Zulum declared.

He emphasized that the ban would be strictly enforced and warned against any attempts to flout the order.

“Let me make it clear, there will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of this ban.

“Security agencies have been given strict orders to clamp down on any filling station or individual contravening this directive. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” he stated.

The governor’s latest move comes amid rising security concerns in the state.

Last month, Zulum raised alarm over a resurgence of Boko Haram attacks, disclosing that the insurgents had overrun some military formations in the state.
