It has been many years since a fixture like Napoli and Inter Milan meant a lot. On Saturday, people didn’t just watch Napoli and Inter Milan for the fun of it alone. They also watched it knowing that these two teams are title contenders this season.

Prior to that game, Napoli was on eight straight wins. Inter, on the other hand, won seven games and drew one out of eight. In other words, they are currently the two best teams in Italy.

It was a game that lived up to its billing. Both teams showed they are ready to be Seria A champions this season with their dogged style of play.

They played like title contenders. As usual, Napoli dominated position due to their new brand of football called “Sarri” football named after their coach Maurizio Sarri.

While Napoli held on to the ball for most part of the game, Inter had a few counter attacks, which would have won them the game.

Inter Milan have played three big teams this season, winning two and drawing one. They defeated Roma and AC Milan and played a goalless draw with Napoli. The last time Inter won the Seria A was in 2010 when they won the treble with Jose Mourinho as coach.

Napoli, on the other hand, has not won the title since 1990 when Diego Maradona captained them to victory. Those were the glory days of Napoli.

Champions Juventus are trailing behind in third position this season after winning six consecutive league titles. They had a draw and a loss this season. Their win away to Udinese (2-6) has reduced the gap between them and league leaders, Napoli to three points. Juventus still have Inter Milan, Napoli and AC Milan to play in the first half of the season. These are games, which could take Napoli and Inter far above Juve fail to win.
