Deputy Governor of Benue State, Mr. Benson Abounu, has identified reason some deputies fall out with their state governors.

Abounu who spoke to journalists in his office premises on Thursday explained that ‘assumption of right” on the side of deputy was the major cause of conflicts between most deputies and their principal (governor).

The deputy governor had visited the PDP state secretariat to consult with the state working committee of the party on his gubernatorial aspiration for 2023.

He explained that any deputy that does not assume right will surely not have  problem with the principal.

He said,  “the reason why some deputies fall out with their principals is because they assumed right.

“Some deputy governors have the belief that they are being short-changed, they are not being given enough and that they are not getting what were due to them.

“But as deputy governor you have no right, none whatsoever, because the constitution does not ascribe anything to deputy governor.

Abounu added that two things that were available to deputy governors is, in the event the governor goes on holiday and asks the deputy to act and in the event the governor decides to assign duty.

“And if he (governor) decides not to assign any duty to you, has he committed any offense? Abounu queried.

He, however, praised his principal saying that he was lucky to have a good principal in governor Samuel Ortom who always assign duty to him.

“My governor had on several occasions asked me to represent him in Nigeria Governors Forum, Northern Governors, National Economic Could and even the highest decision making i.e  Council of States.

Abounu had once told journalists that he would seek the face of God, consult with his principal and the Benue people especially Tiv people before throwing in for the governorship race.

He said that his principal had given him the nod to consult with stakeholders, part of which he said took him to the state PDP secretariat on Thursday for further consultation.
