Leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Anambra State on Wednesday boasted that the party has returned to its pre-1991 winning ways and is working to take Anambra State in the next year’s governorship election.

Addressing the press in Awka, the state chairman, Dr. Webster Okonkwo, said the party was eager to return to implement its programmes, which it could not complete in its first term when Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife was governor.

Surrounded by the National Vice Chairman, South East, Chief Arinze Ekeleme, state vice chairman, Vincent Chukwurah and other officials, Okonkwo said the party decided to announce that it was fully back and better.

It said the mandate given to Ezeife in 1991 remained unfilled and as 2021 drew closer, the party wished to express its readiness to reclaim its mandate at the polls.

He added: “The faces and personalities may have changed, but the core message, the ideology and the manifesto remain the same. We believe in our people, we rely on our people and we must invest on our people.

“In a nutshell, SDP was, is, and will remain people-driven, people-focused and people-oriented.”

He said although the Anambra State government borrowed from Ezeife’s programme, it did not give the people what they wanted and called on SDP to return to the drawing board.

According to him, the SDP administration would promote a production and export based economy that would ensure a clear departure from the consumption economy in place today.
