Hope that the devastating effect of the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, may soon abate was dashed on Wednesday as other unions (SSANU, NASU.et.c) in universities are starting a fresh action.

Already, the non-teaching staff unions of Nigerian public universities have declared that on September 11, they are going on strike.

The unions involved are Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU; Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU and the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, President of SSANU, Samson Ugwoke declared that the strike would be total.

His words:  “During the strike, there shall be no provision of services, no matter how skeletal. Concessions shall not be granted while all our members are to stay at home till further notice, unless as directed by JAC through their respective presidents.”

It would be recalled that ASUU declared a nationwide strike on August 13 over issues bordering on welfare and working conditions of lecturers.

The national president of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, addressing a press conference to kick start the strike said lecturers were getting too frustrated.
