Benue State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set the stage to elect members of the state executive into the various positions as it holds its congress at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

The party has also passed a vote of confidence on Governor Samuel Ortom for ensuring good and inclusive governance in the state.

The vote of confidence was passed after the party Secretary, Mr. Joseph Nyam moved the motion and it seconded by the former house of Representatives member for Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Hassan Saleh.

The Secretary of the party stated that the first tenure of Governor Samuel Ortom’s administration witnessed various challenges, chief among them being the invasions and killing of innocent Benue people by armed Herdsmen.

He, however, noted that despite the challenges, the Governor has made great achievement in sectors of education, health and infrastructural development.

He also named the much celebrated Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017, by the state to check the crises among other achievements saying Ortom deserves to the honour done to him.

Meanwhile, Gov. Samuel Ortom thanked the party for passing a vote of confidence on him and pledged to work for the victory of the party come 2023.

“I will not fail you or let you down. I assure you that with your support, we will emerge victorious. I will continue to ensure accountability selflessness, Justice, equity and fairness in the governance of Benue state.

“I am ready to take admonishments and counsels to move the party and state forward. I will continue to give leadership that is people orientated and ensure that the party emerges victorious come 2023,” Ortom said.

Earlier, the chairman of the electoral committee, Ambassador Tukur Manyi thanked the delegates and PDP executive for their support and cooperation during previous congresses.

He said the process provides an opportunity for members to rededicate themselves to the peace and good governance of the state, adding that “today’s election is a family affair as there will be no loosers but all winners.”

He commended those who stepped down for those in the context saying they have exhibited much courage and love for the party.

He advised those to be elected to extend hands of fellowship by carrying all party members along during their tenure.

Delegates from the 23 local government areas of the state had gathered at the Aper Aku Stadium, venue of the event, on Saturday morning to commence accreditation process to elect the state executives.

The process according to officials of the party is aimed at strengthening the various structures of the party and repositioning it ahead of 2023 election as PDP remains the ruling party.

Other dignitaries at the event, Sen. Gabriel Suswan, Sen. Iyorcha Ayu, Sen. David Mark, Sen. Oker Jev, among others took turns to pledge their loyalty to the party and support to the Ortom administration to enable him move the state to enviable heights.

As at the time of filing this report, voting was still in progress.
