No fewer than 34,700 students in exit classes in Bayelsa State will sit for the terminal examinations as secondary schools resume academic activities across the country on August 4.
Out of the figure, 19,000 are SS3 students, while 15,700 are JSS3 students.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Walton Liverpool, disclosed this in Yenagoa on Saturday.
Liverpool said that primary six pupils would take their examination at a future date.
He did not, however, clarify if the figures were made up of students in public schools only, or both public and private schools.

Liverpool said: “We have up to 19,000 SS3 students. We also have 15,700 JSS 3 students. Those are the two terminal classes we are taking for now. Primary six will be taken later.”
The Federal Government had on July 27 directed all secondary schools in the 36 states to resume academic activities on August 4 following a meeting with education stakeholders.
The resumption, according to the government, was to enable SS3 students prepare for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), while JSS3 students would sit for the JSSCE.
A statement by the Director of Press and Information at the Federal Ministry of Education, Bem Goong, said “Secondary schools in the country are to reopen as from August 4, 2020 for exit classes only.
“Students will have two weeks within which to prepare for the West African Examinations (WAEC) due to start on the 17th of August, 2020.
