As Abia State government rolls out more stringent moves to contain the Coronavirus spread across the state, a royal father, Eze Geoffrey Ibeakanma, has described as cheering the information that the two index cases of COVID-19 have now tested negative.
The monarch, therefore, asked the residents to adhere strictly to the guidelines issued by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to totally win the battle against the Coronavirus scourge.
Speaking at the distribution of food items as palliatives to Umuojameze residents in Ezeleke community, Umuahia South local government area, on Wednesday, Eze Ibeakanma, the traditional ruler of the community commended the Umuojameze COVID-19 Concerned Citizens (UCCC) for coming out to cushion the effect of the lockdown and curfew in Abia State.
Items donated by the group included bags of rice, beans, cartons of noodles and a drum of kerosene.

Speaking at the event, president of Board of Trustees (BoT) of UCCC, Mr. Chuks Nwononiwu, said the concerned citizens of Umuojameze, who made the donations were touched by the plight of some of their indigenes whose sources of livelihood had been disrupted by the lockdown and curfew, adding that the food items were worth millions of naira.
He explained that the donation was to assist particularly the vulnerable ones among them to alleviate hunger, even as he used the opportunity to call on other philanthropists in Abia State to ensure that the less privileged were given adequate care in form of palliates to enable them survive the hard times.
In his comment, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor, Mr. Ebere Ezekiel, commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for waging a relentless war against the Coronavirus, even as he pleaded with the government to accede to the request of the people by repairing their Mgbedeala road.
In her response, the community’s women leader, Mrs Chinenye Ibeakanma, described the gesture by their sons and daughters as noble, stressing that the palliatives would go a long way in ameliorating the plights of the vulnerable ones who had been endangered by both the lockdown and the curfew.
