No fewer than eight people were killed on Thursday in two major accidents that happened in Lagos.
A number of other persons were left injured.
The first which saw the death of three persons was that of a train which derailed while the other involved a petrol tanker which rammed into a stationary truck at Kara area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The train incident which occurred at the Abbattoir area of Agege, Lagos saw the train bumping into a trailer, killing and injuring some persons.
There were no details about the cause of the accident, but the Public Relations Officer of the Police in Lagos State, Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed that three people died in the incident.
In the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident which occurred very early on Thursday, no fewer than 16 vehicles were affected by the inferno which resulted from the accident.
The loaded fuel tanker was said to have caught fire when it rammed into a stationary vehicle conveying brewery products.

Five people died as a result of the accident, according to the Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mr. Hyginus Omeje.
His words: “We received a call this morning that an accident occurred by the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where about 16 vehicles were involved.
“Three people died on the spot while two later died at the hospital, the crash involved many vehicles, including buses, cars and trucks.
“The number of people involved in the accident was 53. They are 40 men and 13 women.
“The injured people have been taken to the nearest hospital with the help of Lagos State Emergency Management.”
