Four South Africans have been reported missing while on vacation in Mozambique, with one confirmed dead, Department of International Relations and Cooperation, DIRCO, spokesman, Ndivhuwo Mabaya, has said.

Mabaya said on Thursday that the four travelled to Mozambique on Jan. 12 and went missing two days later while swimming.

“One body has been recovered in the Portuguese Island waters. We are trying to rescue and find everyone still missing.’’

He said that DIRCO Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu, had been briefed about ongoing rescue operations regarding the four.

“The department is communicating with the rescue and operations team and the high commissioner, as rescue is still underway,” he said.

“Dirco, through South Africa’s high commission in Maputo is working with local authorities to provide assistance to families, which arrived in Mozambique to help with the search of their loved ones.’’
