Concerned Pensioners in Benue state who embarked on an indefinite strike to demand the payment of their arrears of pension and gratuity have suspended their action temporarily.

The pensioners on Tuesday suspended their ptotest after seven days of occupying Benue Government house gate.

Their dispersal followed the directive from the Chairman, Mr. Peter Kyado to go home and reconvene at the Secretariat of the Pensioners on Wednesday, September 11.

Kyado said their decision was to allow for a meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom today (Wednesday) to find lasting solutions the issue.

He said they were also considering the pleas of prominent sons ot the state who had come to address them as well as the intervention of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, to go home.

According to Kyado, the group had considered the plea from the immediate past Governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam and other members of the National Assembly; Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly (BSHA), Titus Uba, and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) who intervened in the matter.

Recall that the leadership of the Benue State House of Assembly pledged to support the pensioners to get their entitlements.

Our correspondent also reports that the Senator representing Benue North East, Mr. Gabriel Suswam has promised to return by Monday next week, with other Benue law makers living in Abuja to address the issue affecting the pensioners.
