Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has distanced himself from an on-going campaign by a group for him to contest for the post of the president in 2019.

He described those behind the exercise as mischievous.

The group which said it was based in Belfast, Northern Ireland described Osinbajo as the “the right ruler for Nigeria.”

It claimed to have already set up a website to push for his presidential ambition.

The group however said they were acting independent of the vice president whom they were promoting.

Said the group on its website:  “Note that Osinbajo did not endorse this volunteer group. We have never met him. We are strong believers in the fact that he is the right ruler for Nigeria and must create a peoples volunteer base for him.”

But reacting to the development, Osinbajo called on Nigerians to disregard the move by the group.

According to his spokesman, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo said he had nothing to do with the group.

Said Akande on his Twitter:  “Please disregard this website created by faceless people for mischievous purposes. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Vice President,” the VP’s spokesperson, Laolu Akande, wrote on Twitter.
