Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun said on Monday that the lockdown of the state would commence on Friday, April 3 rather than March 30 as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that the President had directed that Lagos, Abuja and Ogun be placed on lockdown beginning from 11p.m on Monday, March 30 following the increasing number of coronavirus cases in Lagos and Abuja and Ogun State’s proximity to Lagos.

According to Governor Abiodun, the shift in date followed a request by the state government to the President which was ‘graciously’ granted.

He explained that the request was to enable his government and the people prepare for the lockdown by providing food for the people.

Abiodun said once the lockdown commences on Friday it would be total with the exception of those on essential services.
