The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has disbursed N27.4million as scholarships and bursary grants to 274 students of tertiary institution across the country, from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.
Speaking at the occasion which was held at Abak, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State urged the beneficiaries of the scholarship and bursary grants to renew their commitments to their studies.
He stressed that hard work, honesty and determination were important in their need to lead the future.
According to him, no society became great unless it gave adequate attention to the education of its people.
Akpabio also praised Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State for his commitment to promoting education.
He said the governor’s contribution to the educational development of the state was great.
He pledged the support of the people of his senatorial district for the governor.
According to him, they would vote for him for another term, having enjoyed the effect of good governance.

He also thanked the people of his constituency for giving him the opportunity to serve them.
He said he had been able to achieve much because of their co-operation and assistance.
Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, had some good words for Akpabio.
He said the people of the constituency had benefitted immensely from electing him to represent them at the Senate.
He thanked the senator for doing well for his people.
Speaking on the emergence of the beneficiaries of the scheme, the chairman of the Senatorial Briefing Planning Committee, Sir. Emem Akpabio, said the selection of beneficiaries for the grant ensured that all wards were covered.
He thanked the senator for having confidence in his committee.
The immediate past Commissioner for Information and Communications in the state, Elder Aniekan Umanah, said the programme embarked upon by the senator would reposition the area and make the people the better for it.
Only recently, Akpabio empowered the people of his constituency.
At the occasion, over 2000 people went home with cars, buses, tractors, block moulding machines, tricycles, tricycle trucks, grinding machines, industrial sewing machines, generators and several other items.
It was disclosed that there are plans to commission no fewer than 48 constituency< projects initiated and completed by Akpabio.
