The gunman who shot members of St. Philips Catholic Church in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state has been identified, the Police have said.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar, made this known on Sunday.

According to him, contrary to the information making the round, only one man invaded the church.

The Police said  they have identified the gunman but did not give additional information.

Earlier in the day, some gunmen stormed St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra.

The church was observing its morning mass at about 5:45 a.m.when the attackers invaded the church and shot a particular man.

An eye witness said that they later went on rampage and shot at the remaining worshippers numbering over 100.

Scores of people were killed in the church while other critically injured worshippers died on the way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.

The source, however, said the priest of the church was not wounded in the incident.
