The Abia State Police Command on Sunday revealed plans by an armed robbery gang to rob financial institutions in Abia, the commercial hub of the State.
A press release issued by the State Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna which revealed the plans, said the group was gathering arms within and outside Aba with the aim of launching an attack on financial institutions.
Meanwhile, the government of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu has announced a reward of N5million for any person with credible information that would lead to the arrest of the gang members.
The statement read: “Any member of the public with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the members of the gang should give it directly to the commissioner of Police for the purpose of absolute confidentiality.
“Members of the public are assured of the state government and Abia Police Command’s resolve to assure the protection of life and property of all law-abiding citizens of the state.”
Ogbonna also advised financial institutions to beef up security, urging hoteliers to be watchful over the people coming into their facilities to lodge.
