Unknown to many people, humans do not sleep alone on their beds at night. They regularly entertain unknown guests, mostly microscopic dust mites that settle on beddings during the day. And because we regularly play hosts to unknown guests, we are obliged to answer the natural question: How often do you wash your bed sheets and pillow cases? Here are responses by Nigerians to the delicate and personal question.

Andrew Irabor: – “I wash my beddings at least twice a month.”

Experts, including Laura, recommend that we should steam mattresses, at least, once in six months. This will eliminate dust and mite faeces that usually cling to mattresses. This can cause allergies, asthma, fungi, and mould spores which can, in turn, lead to serious allergic reactions.
Doctors, however, recommend that we wash our pillows regularly. In addition to the reasons given above, it is imperative to note that some of the weight inherent in pillows are accounted for by bugs, dead skin, mites and their faeces.
An unwashed pillow may contain a revolting 16 species of fungi but washing at 600 C should be able to deal with bacteria, according to experts
