Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has called on security agencies in the country, particularly, those in Benue, to sustain their synergy for a more secured country.
Governor Ortom stated this at the graduation ceremony of Naval Police Officers Basic Course 07/18 at the Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, Makurdi.
Ortom, who congratulated the graduands,16 in number and the management team, said it was no longer business as usual for the graduands noting that having cut their teeth
after a three month rigorous academic exercise, the Navy looked up to them to bring the necessary change in the system.
The governor who was represented by his special adviser on security, Col Paul Hemba (rtd) said the calibre of people present at the event showed a renewed cooperation among the military and other security agencies in the state.
He urged them to sustain the cordiality, maintaining that it was necessary to face the common security challenges confronting the state and the nation in general.
The Acting Chief Instructor, Lt Commander Segun Adebajo, explained that the 16 officers were nominated for the Naval provost Officer Basic course and they were all found worthy in character and in learning. The commandant noted that 848 personnel have been trained comprising 127 officers and 721 ratings so far despite some challenges.
According to him, the under training officers conducted themselves in an officer-like manner and no incident of indiscipline was recorded throughout the period of the course.
He expressed the confidence that the Naval Provost and Regulating School being the cradled of discipline have equipped the students with the required basics to carry out their duties as professionals.

Earlier, the school Commandant, Edem Bassey Duke thanked all agencies and organizations for assisting the school during the training and urged them to sustain their support.
According to him, plans were in the offing for the school to commence Officers Young Advocacy Course and Police Administration and Security Management as captured in the Chief of the Naval Staff Directives 1 and 2 respectively saying the commencement will improve the profile of the school.
The Commander, who noted that the school had been having challenges of space since its relocation to Makurdi in 2010, said the school was operating from a temporary site too small for full military activities.
He called on the federal government to make plans to relocate the school to a permanent site.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating students, Sub. Lt. Alan Agwu promised that they will not fail the school.
