The lawmaker representing Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency of Oyo State, Olatoye Sugar, has been shot dead, as suspected political thugs engage in violent clashes in parts of Ibadan, the state capital.

NewsmakersNG learnt that Sugar, who was also the Oyo Central senatorial district candidate of the Action Democratic Party in the National Assembly election was attacked on his way from his village where he had gone to vote.

He was reportedly hit in the eye and was rushed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where he died.

Reports say the area most affected by the violence is the Lalupon Iyana church axis.

Some residents told NewsmakersNG that the violence which broke out around 6pm is yet to abate with sporadic gunshots pervading the entire area.
