An auto crash involving a white Mazda bus and a Mack truck in Ogun has claimed the life of at least 10 persons, including two months old baby and the mother.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed the incident in an interview with journalists in Abeokuta on Thursday.

He said the accident happened at Ibara village, on Abeokuta /Sagamu Expressway, Ogun on Thursday 10.30 a.m.

“The Mazda bus with registration number TRE 556 XA was coming from Sango going toward Ijebu Ode and Ijebu Igbo before the accident.

“We learnt that the bus parked by the traffic corridor to allow one of the passengers, a female, ease when the truck rammed into it from behind.

“The truck with registration number LND 564 XP dragged the bus along until it fell on the bus,’’ he said.

He further said four males, five females and a baby died in the accident while five other persons sustained serious injury.

“Three of the dead victims were prospective students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), who were going to the school to process their admissions.

“The baby who died among other victims, was two months old and she died with her mother,” he said.

Akinbiyi also told the journalists that the driver of the truck loaded with granite caused the auto crash through reckless driving.

The TRACE spokesman explained that the corpses of the dead were deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) mortuary, while the injured were taken to same hospital for treatment.

He, however, said that the driver of the truck who was responsible for the accident ran away.
