Brigadier General Buba Marwa, Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee on Elimination of Drug Abuse, said there was no vacancy in Aso Rock seat of power till 2023.

Marwa, who was fielding questions from newsmen during a press conference in Yola, Adamawa State, urged those eyeing the presidential seat to wait till 2023 when President Muhammadu Buhari would leave the office on completion of his second term, saying that efforts of other presidential candidates would be fruitless.

According to him, Buhari had done well in the three areas of the economy, security and fighting corruption, adding that his achievements would give him an advantage during the election.

On the current killings in the North-East of the country, Marwa said the Army and other security agencies had done well, but that they required total support and encouragement from the public to perform better.

He disclosed that drug abuse among youths was eroding the country’s image and destroying Nigerian youths, even as he maintained that President Buhari was determined to end the incidence of drug abuse in the country to secure the country’s future.

Marwa said his committee would partner with relevant agencies to rid the nation of drug peddling, stressing that the government was disturbed by the imminent dangers of drug consumption, which had the tendency to destroy generations.

He maintained that Buhari would leave no stone unturned to ensure the end of the menace before it killed the country, hence the creation of his advisory committee.

He stated that to enhance the war against drug abuse, the presidency inaugurated a two-tier structure, including the inter-ministerial committee headed by the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the advisory committee led by him.

Marwa said his committee would carry an advocacy to Nigerians that had not been into drug abuse to prevent them from venturing into the habit and also stop those that had started the habit, to completely curtail the drug supply chain.

He said the task before his committee was to ensure the protection of over 40 million Nigerians youths yet to be exposed to hard drugs consumption before tackling those who were already addicted.
