He is expected to declare open the 2018 Chief of Army Staff (CAOS) Annual Conference and also visit the troops of the 157 Battallion stationed at Metele, a border community in the state, who were attacked recently by Boko Haram terrorists.

Scores of soldiers lost their lives in that attack.

The Presidential Jet carrying the President touched down at the Nigerian Air Force wing of the Maiduguri International Airport at about 11:15 am amid tight security in the state capital and its environs.

Hundreds of people however, trooped to the streets to welcome the President who was received by Gov. Kashim Shettima, heads of military formations and other top government officials.

While in Borno, Buhari is also expected to visit the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Garbai Elkanemi.

It is believed that the President’s visit will booster the morale of officers and soldiers following the recent attack and killing of soldiers.

Recall that the President had cancelled his proposed five-day casual leave scheduled to have commenced on Nov. 27 in order for him to be in Maiduguri as a mark of respect for victims of Boko Haram attacks across the battlefields in the Northeast zone.
