A former Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has expressed doubt over the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct a free and credible poll in 2019.

Balarabe, in a telephone conversation with The Next Edition, said it would be a miracle if the electoral umpire is able to make the forthcoming election credible as desired by many Nigerians.

“Nobody should expect much from INEC in 2019 because they would be overwhelmed by lots of challenges,  especially with the activities of desperate politicians that would make their performance below people’s expectations.

He urged politicians to consider the public interest above personal ones in order not to overheat the polity.

“The problem we have with our political systems is that politicians are more interested in their personal interest than that of the people; that is why they buy votes and engage in electoral malpractices,” he said.

Musa who recently retired from partisan politics said that declaring the result of Osun governorship election inconclusive was not surprising because of the strength of the two leading political parties in Osun State.
