The senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melayo, has finally been arrested.

He was said to have reported himself to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Abuja on Tuesday.

The arrest came after the police laid siege to his house for many hours since Monday.

Following the siege and the withdrawal of the policemen attached to him, Melaye had on Monday raised the alarm over alleged attempt to kill him.

The policemen were withdrawn during the visit of the  Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Commissioner, Sadiq Bello, to his residence.

Raising the alarm in his tweets, Melaye said:

“We are in a civil society. No warrant and case is in court yet this lawlessness. I’m a responsible NIGERIAN and law abiding. There is a plan to kill me and I know about it.

“We are not in a banana Republic. I cannot be silenced. @BBCBreaking AFRICA @BBCBreaking.

“All my policemen have been taken away with their arms. One CP came and took them away. There is also a plan to set me up again. But in God I trust. Truth will always prevail.”

The senator was arrested Monday morning by men of the Nigerian Immigration Service at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Aiport, Abuja.

He was however later released.

Hours after, it was obvious that the Senator was yet to be free from trouble.

He was trapped in his Abuja residence as it was  surrounded by policemen.

He announced the siege on his Twitter page.

His tweet reads:  “Over 30 heavily armed fierce-looking mobile policemen have just stormed my residence in Maitama, Abuja.

“All roads leading to my house have been condoned off, as heavy mobile police men blocked entry & exit of the road. They currently lay siege on in and around the house.”

It would be recalled that the police had declared Melaye wanted over a number of issues one of which had to do with illegal possession of arms.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State, Ali Janga, the senator was already on the Interpol watch list.
